What does hiking travel insurance cover?
Our hiking and trekking travel insurance combines essential travel protection with specialist cover for walking and trekking activities. It is designed for hikers & trekkers at all levels particiapting in everything from a one-off walking adventure or overseas trekking holiday to a high-altitude expedition or multiple trips throughout the year.
Our full trekking travel cover can include emergency medical treatment and repatriation, trip cancellation, travel disruption, delayed baggage, personal accident, personal liability, search and rescue costs, and other unexpected travel expenses.
For sport-specific cover you’ll also find trekking equipment cover available, options to choose additional altitude activities (up to 7,000m), options to add trekking in Nepal and Tanzania to consider a wide range of different abilities.
If you already have travel insurance but it limits trekking cover, our activity bolt-on can add extra cover where your existing policy falls short.
Check the activities you select are appropriate for the activities you will be taking part in.
Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.
Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.
Only a summary of the policy’s coverage is presented on this page. Please refer to policy documents for full details of what is and what is not covered, when you get a quote.
How much does hiking travel insurance cost?
The price of your trekking insurance will first depend on the level of cover you choose (bronze, silver of gold plans) and whether you need protection for a single trip or multiple trips across the year.
Your personal and travel details will also shape the cost, including your age, destination and the length of your trip.
Trekking-specific factors can make a bigger difference too. These include the altitude you plan to reach, the terrain and type of route involved, and whether you want additional cover for specialist trekking equipment.
Pre-existing medical conditions will not typically affect your premium but will need to be declared.
