What does Ironman triathlon insurance cover?
Ironman triathlon trips can involve multiple race scenarios; a full-distance race, an international championship, a training camp or several events across the season.
Our Ironman insurance gives endurance athletes a choice of cover based on where they are racing, how often they travel and the protection they already have.
A full sports travel policy combining specialist Ironman triathlon cover with protection for the wider trip.
Benefits can include emergency medical treatment and repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, baggage, personal accident, race entry fees, search and rescue, and cover for essential equipment such as bikes, wheels, wetsuits, aero helmets and more.
If you already have travel insurance but Ironman racing or training is excluded, a bolt-on can add cover for selected race days.
For long-distance triathlon training and events closer to home, a separate sports accident policy can provide benefits including personal accident, personal liability and income protection.
Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.
Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.
Only a summary of the policy’s coverage is presented on this page. Please refer to policy documents for full details of what is and what is not covered, when you get a quote.
How much does Ironman insurance cost?
Your Ironman premium depends on age, destination (Europe, Worldwide, or Worldwide including USA & Canada), trip duration, and the cover level selected.
Options such as cancellation limits, declared bike value and sports equipment cover, and whether you’re attending multiple events or a training camp will influence the price.

Why you need ironman travel insurance
Competing exclusions for Ironman
Competitive endurance events and associated training may not be covered by regular travel insurance.
Disruption can derail participation
Cancellation, delays or missed connections could prevent you from reaching the start line.
Racing puts your body under pressure
Illness, injury or exhaustion may lead to costly medical treatment or repatriation abroad.
Our experts explain why…
“Travelling overseas for an Ironman can involve months of preparation, three demanding disciplines and valuable equipment, so a problem before race day can affect far more than the event itself.
A training injury, illness, cancelled flight or delayed bike could stop you reaching the start line and leave you facing medical costs, replacement expenses or lost bookings and entry fees.
Ironman triathlon insurance can help protect your race and the wider trip, with cover for emergency medical treatment, cancellation, travel disruption, race entry fees, bikes, wetsuits and other essential equipment.”
