What does shark cage diving insurance cover?

Our shark cage diving travel insurance combines specialist activity cover with essential protection for the rest of your trip.

It is designed for travellers heading overseas for a shark cage diving experience, guided marine excursion or wildlife adventure, including trips where the activity is the main purpose of travel.

Cover can include emergency medical treatment and repatriation if you are injured or become unwell during your trip, alongside search and rescue costs. Protection may also be available for pre-paid shark cage diving fees if an insured event prevents you from taking part.

A full policy can also include trip cancellation and curtailment, baggage, personal accident, personal liability and other unexpected travel expenses.

Cover is intended for organised shark cage dives operated by a recognised provider, with participants following the operator’s safety instructions and remaining within the designated cage or viewing area.

Already have travel insurance but shark cage diving is excluded? Our travel bolt-on can extend your existing policy to include the activity for the days you need, even after your trip has started.

Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.

Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.

How much does shark cage diving insurance cost?

Your shark cage diving insurance premium depends on factors such as your age, destination, trip length and the type of shark diving activities you plan to undertake.

The level of cover you choose, including medical expenses, cancellation protection and optional equipment cover, will also affect the price.

Hear from our experts

“Shark cage diving offers a rare opportunity to witness some of the ocean’s most powerful predators up close — often in remote, offshore locations.

Even with strict safety procedures in place, medical emergencies, evacuation from boats, and travel disruption can quickly become costly without the right protection.

For over 30 years, we’ve helped adventure travellers explore with confidence, knowing their policy is designed specifically for activities like shark cage diving.”
