What does ski touring insurance cover?
Our ski touring insurance is designed for skiers heading beyond the resort, from a single day of touring to multi-day routes and longer ski touring holidays.
It combines specialist cover for ski touring with essential travel protection, helping protect you against both activity-related risks in the mountains and unexpected disruption to your trip.
Our full ski touring travel insurance can include emergency medical treatment and repatriation, trip cancellation and curtailment, baggage and personal effects, personal accident, personal liability, and more.
Cover specific to ski touring can also include touring skis and specialist equipment, activity fees, search and rescue, and protection for certain disruptions caused by snow conditions.
Already have travel insurance? Our ski touring bolt-on can extend your existing policy to cover the activity for a short period and can even be added after your trip has started.
Make sure you select every skiing discipline and activity you plan to take part in when getting a quote.
Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.
Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.
Only a summary of the policy’s coverage is presented on this page. Please refer to policy documents for full details of what is and what is not covered, when you get a quote.
How much does ski touring insurance cost?
Your ski touring insurance premium is influenced by several factors, including your age, destination, trip length, how often you travel and the level of cover you choose.
If you’re travelling with touring skis, avalanche safety equipment or other high-value specialist kit, selecting additional equipment cover may also affect the cost of your policy. Higher cancellation limits can influence the premium too.
Medical treatment in mountain and backcountry environments can be expensive, particularly where rescue or evacuation is required, so it’s important to choose cover that reflects the type of ski touring you have planned.

Why you need ski touring travel insurance
Remote terrain can increase rescue costs
An accident away from maintained slopes may require mountain rescue or emergency medical treatment.
Touring equipment can be expensive
Specialist skis, avalanche safety equipment and other essential kit can be costly to repair or replace if stolen or damaged.
Conditions can change your route or plans
Poor weather, avalanche risk and transport disruption can lead to cancelled plans, delays or missed departures.
Our experts explain why…
“Ski touring gives you the freedom to explore quieter, more remote parts of the mountain, but travelling away from maintained pistes can bring additional risks, including changing snow conditions, difficult terrain and limited access to assistance.
Careful route planning, suitable touring and avalanche safety equipment, and following local guidance are all important. Conditions can change quickly, so skiers should be prepared for the environment they are travelling through.
Our ski touring insurance can help cover emergency medical treatment, search and rescue costs, cancellation, travel disruption, specialist equipment and other unexpected expenses if your plans are affected.
With more than 30 years’ experience supporting skiers and active travellers, we can help you head into the mountains with cover designed around the demands of ski touring.”
