What does off-piste skiing insurance cover?
Off-piste skiing insurance is designed for skiers venturing beyond marked runs, from a single day on the mountain to a longer ski touring holiday.
Bringing together specialist off-piste sports cover with relevant travel insurance helping protect you against both activity-related risks and unexpected disruption to your trip.
Our complete off-piste ski travel insurance can cover you for emergency medical treatment and repatriation, trip cancellation and curtailment, baggage and personal effects, personal accident, personal liability, and more.
Specific to off-piste skiing this cover can also include ski equipment, activity fees, search and rescue, and protection in certain circumstances involving resort closure due to a lack of snow or avalanche disruption.
Alternatively, our off-piste bolt-on can extend your existing policy to cover short-term participation and can even be added after your trip has started.
Make sure you select every skiing discipline and activity you plan to take part in when getting a quote.
Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.
Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.
Only a summary of the policy’s coverage is presented on this page. Please refer to policy documents for full details of what is and what is not covered, when you get a quote.
How much does off-piste skiing insurance cost?
Your off-piste ski insurance premium is shaped by several key factors, including your age, destination, the length and frequency of your trip, and the level of cover you choose.
If you’re travelling with avalanche safety gear, touring equipment or high-value skis and snowboards, additional protection for specialist winter sports equipment may also affect the cost of your policy.
Be aware that rescue services, evacuation and hospital treatment can quickly run into thousands of pounds.

Why you need off-piste skiing travel insurance
Off-piste risks can be more costly
Accidents off-piste may require specialist rescue and emergency medical treatment.
Specialist equipment needs protection
Touring skis, avalanche safety gear and other expensive kit may need sport-specific cover.
Mountain disruption can affect your plans
Severe weather, transport delays and missed departures can quickly disrupt an off-piste skiing trip.
Our experts explain why…
“Off-piste skiing can offer a more adventurous way to experience the mountain, but it also comes with added risks, from changing snow conditions and poor visibility to more remote terrain.
Good preparation is essential. You should follow local safety advice, use suitable equipment and never ski off-piste alone, as you will not be covered when skiing solo.
Our off-piste skiing insurance can help with emergency medical expenses, search and rescue costs, cancellations, delays and other unexpected expenses if your trip does not go to plan.
With more than 30 years’ experience supporting active travellers, we can help you explore beyond the marked slopes with the right protection in place.”
