What does triathlon insurance cover?

Triathlon trips can range from a one-off race abroad to international series and a full season of events. Our triathlon insurance lets you choose cover based on where you’re competing, how often you travel and the sports equipment you need to protect.

Designed for amateur triathletes, our full sports travel policy combines specialist triathlon cover with protection for the wider trip.

Benefits can include emergency medical treatment and repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, baggage, personal accident, race entry fees, search and rescue, plus cover for bikes, wetsuits and other essential triathlon equipment.

If you already have travel insurance but triathlon participation is excluded, a bolt-on can add cover for your race, training camp or selected activity days, including after your journey has started.

For training and competing closer to home, a separate sports accident policy can provide benefits such as personal accident, personal liability and income protection.

Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.

Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.

How much does triathlon insurance cost?

Your triathlon premium is influenced by your age, destination, trip length and the level of cover you choose.

Your race plans can also influence the premium, including whether you’re travelling for a single event, several competitions during the year or a dedicated training camp.

The value of your triathlon equipment is another consideration, particularly if you want cover for your bike, wheels, wetsuit, electronics or bike box. Your chosen cancellation and equipment limits will also affect the overall price.

Review our triathlon travel insurance example and get a quote tailored to your race or training trip.

Why you need triathlon insurance?

The risks go beyond race day

Training injuries, illness or an accident during the event could require emergency medical treatment or repatriation abroad.

Small travel setbacks can be costly

A delayed bike or missed connection could leave you facing replacement or rearrangement costs.

Standard travel insurance may not cover competing

Many policies exclude competing in triathlons abroad. Especially extended distances and Ironman.

Hear from our experts

“An overseas triathlon brings together three disciplines, specialist equipment and detailed travel arrangements, so there is plenty that can be affected before the race even begins.

A training injury, illness, cancelled journey or delayed bike could prevent you from competing and leave you facing medical bills, replacement costs or lost bookings.

Triathlon travel insurance is designed to help protect the wider investment in your event, with cover for emergency medical treatment, cancellation, travel disruption, race entry fees, bikes and essential kit.

With more than 30 years’ experience supporting active travellers, we’re here to help you concentrate on your preparation, performance and the finish line.”
