What does Sports Accident Insurance cover?
Our Sports Accident Insurance provides specialist personal accident and personal liability cover for athletes, players and anyone who regularly takes part in sport.
Cover can apply while you are training, competing, attending an event or simply enjoying your sport day to day.
Depending on the level you choose, the policy can include financial support for accidental injuries, broken bones, physiotherapy, dental treatment, consultant fees and other recovery costs.
Personal liability cover can also help if you accidentally injure someone else or damage their property while taking part.
The policy is valid worldwide, but it does not include emergency medical treatment abroad or repatriation, so it should not be used as a replacement for travel insurance.
For sports trips overseas, our Sports Travel Insurance may be a better fit. Alongside emergency medical treatment and repatriation, it can also cover trip cancellation, travel delays, sports equipment and more.
Only a summary of the policy’s coverage is presented on this page. Please refer to policy documents for full details of what is and what is not covered, when you get a quote.
Thousands rate how easy it is
We’ve refined our process to make buying sports insurance abroad simple but thorough, with cover designed around the activities you take part in, from training trips and competitions to active holidays overseas.
Why do you need Sports Accident Insurance?
Recovery & rehab costs can add up
Scans, specialist appointments, physiotherapy and follow-up treatment can quickly become expensive.
Injuries can affect your income
Time away from work may leave you without your usual earnings while you recover.
Liability claims can be costly
Legal fees and compensation costs could fall to you without suitable protection.
Hear from our experts
“Athletes and active individuals participating in their sport can face risks that lead to wider financial consequences beyond the cost of medical treatment.
Even with the right precautions in place, accidents and unexpected injuries can still happen. Being prepared means having suitable cover to support you if something goes wrong.
Specialist sports accident insurance is designed for people who train, compete and stay active. It can provide financial support following an injury, helping with recovery and your return to the sport you enjoy.”

Yes, all policy types include third party liability cover, also known as personal liability. However, you may find that some sports have restrictions or exclusions for liability such as horse riding, dog-related activities and motorised sports. Personal liability is also excluded from Sports Accident Insurance and team policies for any contact sports such as football and rugby.
