Coronavirus Cover

COVID-19 : What is covered under the policy:

The world is a very different place to what it was in early 2020! We know that lots of our customers are keen to get away to foreign shores again, so please read below to see what is and isn’t covered with regards to COVID-19 (or any mutations).

Emergency Medical Expenses and Repatriation

If you fall ill with COVID-19 during your trip and require emergency medical expenses care and / or repatriation to the UK, this would be covered under the policy, as long as the FCDO are not advising against all but essential travel, or against all travel to the country or area which you are visiting.

Cancellation or cutting short your trip

If you are unable to go on your trip or decide to return home early for any reason relating to COVID-19, you would not be eligible to claim under the policy, as COVID-19 is now such a widely known contingency, We would however be happy to move your cover dates if you wish to postpone your trip.

Travelling against FCDO advice

Your policy will not cover you if the FCDO are advising against all but essential travel, or against all travel to your chosen trip destination country / area, unless you are exempt from that advice eg Elite athletes, and you could evidence that in the event of a claim. You can check the FCDO website here: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. We are happy to move your cover dates to future dates for you free of charge if you are postponing your trip.

Quarantine / Self isolation

If you have to quarantine or self isolate before, during or after your trip, there is no cover for this under the policy.

If your questions are not answered above, during the quote process, or in the FAQs below, please email us at sales@sportscover.co.uk or call us in office hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm) to discuss.

FOR POLICIES QUOTED AND PURCHASED PRIOR TO 20TH MAY 2021, PLEASE CHECK YOUR INSURANCE SCHEDULE TO SEE WHAT IS COVERED.

The event that I was planning to take part in has been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. Can I claim for this?

Because COVID-19 is such a known contingency and is still affecting so many events worldwide, unfortunately if your event is no longer taking place because of COVID-19, you would not be able to claim for this.

If the event has been postponed and you plan to travel later in the year / next year, where we can, we would be happy to move your dates of cover. This would incur a £5 administration fee. If your new trip dates are longer, or you plan to travel to a destination in a higher rated zone, this may incur an additional premium. Please email us, quoting your policy no.at sales@sportscover.co.uk, or call on 01494 484800.

Will my medical treatment abroad be covered if I fall ill with COVID-19?

If you fall ill during your trip with COVID-19, or any mutation or variation thereof, we will cover the costs of your emergency medical treatment and where appropriate repatriation as long as you have had all recommended vaccinations, and adhere to all local and government advice and regulations. If you require hospital treatment, we will also pay out under the Inconvenience Benefit section of the policy, subject to the limits of cover. Please note that if you are eligible for vaccination against COVID-19 and chose not to have it, you would not be covered.

I HAVEN’T BOOKED MY FLIGHTS OR ACCOMODATION YET. WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

A major outcome of the ongoing pandemic is that everyone is so much more aware that trips might not be able to go ahead as planned, or might be postponed. We highly recommend that you opt for refundable or exchangeable flights and accommodation so that if your trip cannot go ahead, you are not left majorly out of pocket.

WILL YOU COVER ME FOR TRAVELLING ABROAD?

We will only provide you with cover if there are no UK government restrictions in place against travel, and if there is no advice against travel or all but essential travel on the FCDO website.

If there is no FCDO advice against travel to your destination when you take out the policy, and that subsequently changes prior to your trip, unfortunately as COVID-19 is such a well known contingency currently, you would not be eligible to claim. We would suggest that you contact the trip and / or accommodation provider to see if you can move your trip dates. If this is allowed, we would be able to amend your dates of cover subject to a £5 administration fee. If your new trip dates are longer, or you plan to travel to a destination in a higher rated zone, this may incur an additional premium.

Please email us, quoting your policy no.at sales@sportscover.co.uk, or call on 01494 484800

If you need to quarantine upon arrival at your destination, unfortunately this would not be covered under the policy.

WILL I BE COVERED IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY TRIP BECAUSE I AM ILL WITH COVID-19?

If you, or any member of the group that you plan to travel with, or any member of your family falls ill with COVID-19, and you are unable to go on your trip, unfortunately this would not be covered. We would suggest that you contact your travel agent, airline and / or accommodation provider to see if you can postpone your trip. If you are able to do so, we would be amend your policy trip dates (for single trips) to the new trip dates for a £5 administration fee. If your new trip dates are longer, or you plan to travel to a destination in a higher rated zone, this may incur an additional premium. Please email us, quoting your policy no.at sales@sportscover.co.uk, or call on 01494 484800.

MY DESTINATION IS ON THE UK GOVERNMENT GREEN LIST, BUT I AM WORRIED ABOUT TRAVELLING TO MY CHOSEN DESTINATION. IF I DECIDE NOT TO GO, CAN I CLAIM?

This would classify as disinclination to travel and would therefore be excluded under the policy.

If there is a outbreak when I am on my trip, will I be covered for moving accommodation, cutting short my trip, not being able to take part in a planned activity or having to quarantine or missing out on any aspect of my trip?

As COVID-19 is such a widespread and known contingency, and local or national outbreaks are not that unlikely especially if a new more transmissible or vaccine resistant variant occurs, unfortunately this would not be covered.

I have cover with you and am already abroad. new local restrictions have come into force and I cannot travel home as originally planned.

Please contact us to discuss and we will see what we can do to help.

Can I cancel my policy?

There is a 14 day Cooling Off period during which you can cancel and get a refund, assuming that you have not already travelled, and nothing has occurred which might result in a claim. After 14 days, if you have not travelled and there are no potential claims, you can cancel but there would be a cancellation fee.

I believe that I am eligible to claim under the policy. How do I submit a claim?

After reading the above guidance, if you have incurred costs that you have not been able to recover from the trip provider(s) or your payment card issuers, please contact our claims handlers to obtain a claim form.

IS TRAVEL TO AMBER OR RED LIST COUNTRIES COVERED UNDER THE POLICY

The UK Government travel advice is likely to be subject to ongoing changes with regards to what tests travellers need to undergo before departing or returning to the UK. There are also likely to be ongoing changes to the regulations in place in different countries relating to which tests you need to undergo when visiting that country. This in itself has no bearing on the policy, as there is no cover for undergoing these tests, and no cover for cancellation or curtailment of your trip if you were to test positive at any stage and needed to cancel or cut short a trip, or quarantine either abroad or in the UK.

Whilst all relaxations of the travel restrictions are good news in terms of helping to open up travel again, please note that our policy will not provide you with cover for any contingencies if you travel to a country to which the FCDO is advising against travel, or against all but essential travel at the time of you trip.

We would also like to point out that the Green, Amber and Red lists to which the Government and the Press refer do not totally coincide with the FCDO list. Our policies refer to the FCDO list, so you should check that there are no restrictions in place on the FCDO website before travelling to ensure that you will have cover on your trip.

WE HOPE THAT WE HAVE MANAGED TO ANSWER MOST OF YOUR QUESTIONS, BUT IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT WE HAVEN’T THOUGHT OF, PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL US WITH YOUR POLICY NO. IF APPLICABLE. IF WE CAN’T GIVE YOU AN INSTANT ANSWER, WE WILL LOOK INTO IT, AND GET BACK TO YOU AS SOON AS WE CAN.

WILL MY MEDICAL TREATMENT ABROAD BE COVERED IF I FALL ILL WITH COVID-19?

The Activity TopUp policy is only designed to cover you for doing the specific activity(s) that you have selected cover for in case you get injured or ill doing that activity. If that was the case, and during the course of your treatment for your injury you subsequently contracted COVID-19 and required medical treatment, this would be covered. In that circumstance you would also be eligible to claim for the Inconvenience Benefit section of the cover.

Please note that the policy will only cover you for doing activities in a country / area to which the FCDO say it is safe to trave. If you going to a country or zone to which the FCDO advise against travel, or against all but essential travel, unless you have got permission from us in writing, unfortunately we cannot cover you. Furthermore, you are expected to take all reasonable precautions prior to going on any trips, including having any vaccines for which you are eligible.

I AM ALREADY ABROAD, AND WOULD LIKE TO TAKE OUT COVER FOR AN ACTIVITY NOT COVERED UNDER MY TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICY. WILL YOU COVER ME?

It depends where you are. If you are in a country / area to which the FCDO say it is safe to travel, then you would be covered under the policy for doing your activity. If you are in a country or zone to which the FCDO advise against travel, or against all but essential travel, unless you have got permission from us in writing, unfortunately we cannot cover you. Please note that you are expected to take all reasonable precautions prior to going on any trips, and have any vaccines for which you are eligible.

If the event has been postponed and you plan to take part later in the year / next year, where we can, we would be happy to move your dates of cover. This would incur a £5 administration fee. If your new activity dates are longer, or you plan to do your activity in a higher rated zone, this may incur an additional premium. Please email us, quoting your policy no.at sales@sportscover.co.uk, or call on 01494 484800

CAN I CANCEL MY POLICY?
