What does ultra-marathon insurance cover?
Our ultramarathon travel insurance supports runners heading to a one‑off ultra, multi‑day stage race, mountain ultra at altitude, or a full calendar of events. With several policies to suit your plans.
Purpose-built sports travel insurance for ultrarunners, which covers emergency medical treatment and repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, baggage, personal accident, race entry fee protection, search & rescue, sports equipment cover and more.
Already hold travel insurance but it excludes ultras? Add our bolt‑on to cover your race or training camp, you can even apply it mid‑trip.
Or opt for UK ultramarathon cover including personal accident cover, personal liability and income protection.
Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.
Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.
Only a summary of the policy’s coverage is presented on this page. Please refer to policy documents for full details of what is and what is not covered, when you get a quote.
How much does ultra-marathon running insurance cost?
Your ultra-marathon policy price will depend on your age, destination country, trip duration, and the maximum altitude you’ll reach (under 2,500m or above 2,500m up to 7,000m).
Your chosen cover level will also have an impact – including cancellation limits and optional sports equipment cover (e.g., GPS watch, poles, headlamps, hydration systems), will also influence the price.

Why you need ultra-marathon insurance?
Long-distance events carry greater medical risks
Endurance running can increase the risk of exhaustion, dehydration, falls or injury, potentially requiring emergency treatment.
Ultra entry fees and bookings can be costly
If illness or injury prevents you from competing, you could lose non-refundable race fees, accommodation and other pre-paid costs.
Travel disruption can undo months of preparation
Cancelled flights or missed connections can affect your plans before you even reach the start line.
Hear from our experts
“Travelling abroad for an ultramarathon involves a significant commitment. Alongside flights, accommodation and race fees, you may have spent months preparing for a demanding event in remote terrain, extreme temperatures or at altitude.
The longer distance and extended time on the course can increase the risk of injury, exhaustion, dehydration and other medical problems. Travel delays, illness or cancellation can also disrupt your plans before the race has even begun.
Ultramarathon travel insurance can help cover emergency medical treatment and repatriation, cancellation, travel disruption, lost race fees and other unexpected expenses, helping protect both your trip and the investment you’ve made in the event.
We’ve supported active travellers for more than 30 years, so you can focus on the challenge ahead knowing experienced help is there when you need it.”
