What does via ferrata travel insurance cover?

Via ferrata travel insurance combines essential travel protection with specialist activity cover for the risks involved in cable-protected mountain routes, helping protect you.

Our full travel policy is suitable for regular climbers, first-time participants, guided groups and travellers planning a one-off via ferrata experience abroad.

Cover can include emergency medical treatment and repatriation, trip cancellation and curtailment, via ferrata equipment, pre-paid activity fees, search and rescue, personal accident, liability and more.

If you need extra via ferrata cover to add to an existing travel policy, our via ferrata bolt-on can extend your existing policy to cover a one-off trip or experience. It can even be added after your trip has started.

Our policies provide three different types of cover: Sports travel insurance, Sports accident, and Activity Top-Up. Please ensure you select the most suitable cover for your activity, when you get a quote and always review your policy documents.

Sports equipment is excluded under our bolt‑on cover.

How much does via ferrata insurance cost?

The cost of your via ferrata insurance will depend first on the plan you choose, Bronze, Silver or Gold, with different benefit limits available across each option.

Your price will also reflect your age, destination and trip length, along with the grade and altitude of the via ferrata routes you plan to tackle.

If you need additional cover for specialist sports equipment, this can also affect the overall premium.
