On the golf course, sometimes we feel like we need as much help as we can get. Obviously not all golfers are in a position where they have a caddie escort them through the 18 holes, giving course advice, or the option to turn to a pro for advice on their swing.
That’s where the plethora of excellent golf apps currently on the market can help. New programmes are popping up everyday and some are especially clever ways to help improve your game.
We’ve picked out five golf apps everyone should download before they next tee off.

Golf GPS by Swing U
With thousands of courses mapped out around the world, this nifty app is a great help for planning your next shot. Using GPS, the app can detect where you are on the relevant hole, in relation to the pin. It then acts as a rangefinder to help you most accurately select your next club and adjust the power of your swing accordingly.
As well as the main rangefinder service, the app is also packed with host of extras. This includes scorecards for the relevant courses, the ability to monitor your handicap as well as a selection of handy training tips.
Golf Logix
Another GPS tracking app that can help you improve your game, this time it’s your short game that is getting all the focus. Golf Logix has data on more than 3,000 golf courses in the UK which can drastically up your putting game.
The app has precisely mapped the topographies of each of the courses featured. This gives the insight into the small adjustments you need to make to each putt. Whether it is likely to fall away to the right, or one that needs a gentler stroke to ensure it doesn’t run away down a sloping green, this golf app will tell you.

Swing Profile Golf Analyzer
If it’s an improvement in your swing you want, then this is the app for you. With this great app, you can record and analyse your swing until you master the art of both your shots from the tee and on the fairway (or in the rough!).
Once you’ve got a record of your swings you can watch it back and use the swing plane draw feature to judge your action and identify improvements that can be made. You can also synchronise two of your recordings to play back side-by-side, in order to compare before and after swings or other shot types.
18 Birdies
While 18 Birdies is another app that can help you track your shots on course and keep a record of your score as you go, this is not the reason why it makes our list here.
What the app does that makes it stand out from some of the others on the market is it’s ability to deliver more of a social feel to it. That is through two areas on the app. One where you can connect with fellow golfers, keep track of what the pros are doing and enter your top tee shots for a ‘Shot of The Month’ competition. The other provides you access to a whole host of local tournaments you can get involved in.
This is an all-in-one golf app for players to enjoy both on and off the course.
Like #WayneGretzky said, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t track ???? !! Read all about one of our most popular features, and get ready to show off the next time you crush it ????: https://t.co/gk8cbZsDPy #18birdiestrackedmyshot pic.twitter.com/Kgn9fWOKe4

R&A Rules of Golf
Whether being used to settle an on-course argument or just to swat up on the latest rule changes, the official R&A app is the obvious go-to destination.
Including the complete rules of golf, you can learn the (current) correct way to take a drop, the rules around slow play and the laws that govern just how you should leave bunkers after finding them.
The app is slick, easy to use and a must for any golfer.
