There’s a big world out there for you to explore, and sometimes it can be difficult to know where to go. A search for a cheap adventure holiday or a read of a top travel book can often help you decide. But a little bit of inspiration can go a long way…
Adventure travel influencers have surged in popularity in recent years, matching the increased desire for tourism that’s off the beaten track. They bring plenty of colour to all the major social media platforms, with photos and videos full of wow factor and equally full of adventure.
Our favourite travel influencers
There are travel influencers out there for every niche and just about every corner of the world. To help give you some inspiration for your next adventure, we’ve picked out six of our favourites to follow, each of which serves a very different type of adventure traveller:
For backpackers: Jamison Murray
Jamison Murray is a young New Yorker with around 17,000 followers on Instagram, and what he hasn’t done on his bold travels probably isn’t worth doing. He loves a kick of adrenaline through skydiving and similar extreme sports, making the most of everything the United States has to offer. If you want to take your own path in seeing the world, combining it with excitement and sustainability, then look no further.
For families: Kailah Fredette
Just because you have kids doesn’t mean that there isn’t room in life for an adventure. Kailah Fredette is a breath of fresh air travelling around the world with her partner and two daughters, and her YouTube videos have racked up around 370,000 views at the time of writing. Whether camping by a glacier or exploring Athens and the Greek Islands, the foursome have taken in a huge range of experiences, more than enough for any family to be proud of.
For van life: Crystal Gordon
One of the best ways to see the world on a budget is to buy or hire a camper van to combine transport and accommodation. Crystal Gordon and her partner Brian have done just that, and their channel Vanhalla Adventures is nearing 50,000 subscribers on YouTube. They sold their house to travel permanently and have had to learn van life the hard way and pick things up as they’ve gone along. They’re proof that anyone can do it with the right attitude.
For the outdoors: Tasha Ryland
Tasha Ryland may not have big numbers of followers – around 300 followers on TikTok at last count – but she’s carving out her own little corner of paradise. By day, she works as a nurse in western Canada, but in her spare time, she makes the most of the stunning countryside and scenery that the region has to offer. If you want to see mountains, snow, rivers, forests and rugged natural terrain, she has plenty to inspire you.
For culture: Lisa Niver
There aren’t very many people in the world who are more travelled, or who have experienced more culture, than American TV host Lisa Niver. She’s visited more than 100 countries all over the world and spent three years backpacking through Asia, exploring the many different ways that people live their lives. Combining great imagery with excellent writing, Lisa’s content will really make you think about the world around you, so it’s no surprise her Twitter following has reached 87,000.
For women: Melissa Jimenez
Female adventurers often want to travel but are worried about travelling alone. Melissa Jimenez has worked hard to solve that problem by building a growing community of women who want to see the world together. Her Instagram feed, followed by over 14,000 people, showcases the best of these trips and positions herself as your best friend that you can share these adventures with.
