Far and Ride offer a wide range of horse riding holidays in over 45 countries. We asked the horse riding travel experts for the top destinations for an equestrian activity break this winter!
As the weather becomes more wintry and those of us in the UK are faced with months of darkened skies, chill winds and low temperatures, it’s time for many to think of escaping to warmer climes to find some winter sun. We have several adventurous horse riding holidays to warm you up and to offer exhilarating riding, particularly in the southern hemisphere where they are welcoming summer, sunshine and fabulous experiences in the saddle.
Sports Cover Direct can provide horse riding insurance to cover you for the disciplines you are offered during these riding holidays, even the less typical activities such as polocrosse or riding with game.
1) – Horizon Horseback Adventures, South Africa
Open all year, Horizon provides an easygoing stay for everyone including single travellers, couples, families or groups of friends. They have horses and activities suitable for all levels of rider and guests can enjoy safari rides amongst the wildlife, cattle work, polocrosse, cross country jumping and even swimming with the horses – the perfect way to cool down in the heat of the African sun. When not in the saddle you can sip a refreshing G&T by the pool, take a ‘big five game drive’ or perhaps unwind with a massage.
2) – Crossing the Andes, Chile to Argentina
This is considered by many to be the ultimate adventure, traversing the Andes mountains on horseback and crossing the border from Chile to Argentina. You will ride at incredible heights, experience challenging terrain and follow in the footsteps of San Martin’s army as they freed the people of Chile from their European monarchs in 1817. This is suited to those intrepid travellers who are happy to wash in the river after a long day on horseback!
3) – Mountain Pack Trails, New Zealand
These mountain pack trips will see you ride trails in the backcountry as travellers did in days gone by! Your gear will be carried by a trusty pack horse as you explore the stunning scenery of New Zealand’s South Island, staying in varied accommodations from basic tents to comfortable guesthouses. Novice riders are welcome on these trips as it does not require a high skill level, but participants should be fit and willing as there are long hours involved.
In addition to these faraway adventures, we also have a host of riding holidays available in Europe and elsewhere, including short breaks.
