Pet Sitting Insurance
With an estimated 22 million pets in the UK, and over 50% of British families owning a pet, we are without doubt a nation of pet lovers, which means that there is an ever increasing demand for Pet Sitters. Whilst the owner is on holiday or in hospital, they can have the reassurance of knowing that their pet is being cared for in familiar surroundings. Cats in particular are territorial and prefer to stay in their own homes rather than a cattery or board in a Pet Minder's home and animals such as dogs can be stressed by a change of environment.
This can be an ideal occupation if you are a pet lover. However you should be aware of the potential risks of Pet Sitting. No matter how careful you are, there is a possibility that a member of the public could get injured by a dog or other pet that you are minding, and could take out a claim against you or your business. Or the pet might get lost, or you might lose the owner's keys. By holding Pet Sitting insurance, you will protect yourself and your business against potential claims. It's important for you to know that you are suitably insured, as heavy compensation payouts can have devastating results on any business. At DareDirect we specialise in bespoke Pet Minding Insurance which includes, public liability and employers liability, care, custody and control insurance, and where required, cover for equipment.
So, what do you need?
Public Liability Insurance & Care, Custody and Control Insurance
Our Pet Minding insurance will protect your business against the financial consequences of a claim that a member of the public may make as a result of injury or damage to them or their property. For example if you are walking the dog you will almost inevitably have some interaction with the public; the law states that if you or your business cause damage to someone or their property then you will have to pay for damages. A public liability policy will cover you and your business should the worst occur. This includes instances where a dog in your control causes injury to another animal or person, or even causes damage to someone's property.
Employers Liability Insurance
If your business has employees*, it is compulsory by law to have employer's liability insurance. This will protect your company against the financial consequences of claims made by, or on behalf of an employee who has suffered injury, death or illness at work. When you take out a policy you will receive a certificate which must be displayed in an area where employees can easily read it.
*Please note that if an individual does not exclusively work for you (i.e. you use self employed pet minders) then we will consider them to be sub-contractors, and therefore you will not be required to cover them under employer's liability, provided they have their own public liability insurance).
