Dog Walking Insurance

Many dog owners are finding that their long working day, a hectic schedule, or perhaps illness, just don't allow them to take their dog for regular walks. With over 8 million dogs in the UK, more and more owners are resorting to employing someone to walk their dog for them. This is good news if you love our canine friends, want to work from home, and with hours to suit. However you should be aware of the potential risks. No matter how careful you are, there is a possibility that a member of the public could get injured by a dog that you are walking, and could take out a claim against you or your business. Or the dog might go missing, or you could lose the owner's keys and you could be faced with a claim from the owner. By holding dog walking insurance, you will protect yourself and your business against potential claims. It's important for you to know that you're suitably insured, as heavy compensation payouts can have devastating results on any business. At DareDirect we specialise in bespoke Dog Walking Insurance which includes, public liability and employers liability, care, custody and control insurance, and where required, cover for equipment.

So, what do you need?

Public Liability Insurance & Care, Custody and Control Insurance

Our dog walking insurance will protect your business against the financial consequences of a claim that a member of the public may make as a result of injury or damage to them or their property. All dog walkers have some interaction with the public; the law states that if you or your business cause damage to someone or their property then you will have to pay for damages. A public liability policy will cover you and your business should the worst occur. This includes instances where a dog in your control causes injury to another animal or person, or even causes damage to someone's property.

Employers Liability Insurance

If your business has employees*, it is compulsory by law to have employer's liability insurance. This will protect your company against the financial consequences of claims made by, or on behalf of an employee who has suffered injury, death or illness at work. When you take out a policy you will receive a certificate which must be displayed in an area where employees can easily read it.

*Please note that if an individual does not exclusively work for you (i.e. you use self employed dog walkers) then we will consider them to be sub-contractors, and therefore you will not be required to cover them under employer's liability, provided they have their own public liability insurance).
